Timothy Joseph Monti

Timothy Monti was born on October 12, 1945, in highland Park, mi, to the late Emanuel and Joann Monti née Lanfear, and was quickly followed by six more siblings. He is survived by his loving wife Bunny née Adams, to whom he was married for nearly 47 years, son Christopher, and daughter Sarah. As an adored big brother he is survived by Thomas (Shirley), Jan (the late Ken Coury), Tony (Penny), Charlie (Colleen), Katherine Fielder (Bill), and Jerry, as well as a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins, nieces, and nephews. Timothy lived an amazingly full life; serving three tours in Vietnam as a Chief Warrant Officer and helicopter pilot. He flew Hueys as gunships and medivacs and in one instance, rescued trapped soldiers while under constant fire. Recognition of his bravery included awards of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, 4 Distinguished Flying Crosses, many airmen’s medals, and medals awarded by the south Vietnamese army for their gratitude. After discharge from the US army, Timothy joined the Detroit police department where he met Bunny, and was assigned first as a patrol officer, later transferring to the department’s newly formed aviation unit, where his unique skills were once again in demand. There he flew helicopters and earned his fixed wing pilot’s license. When the aviation section formed a rappel team for tall building rescues, Tim was placed in charge and along with the other members, rappelled from the renaissance center and other buildings in downtown Detroit. He loved golf and spent many happy hours chasing the little white ball, often testing his prowess against that of his ever competitive brothers, spinning various tales and arguing over golf handicaps and points given. Timothy loved his wife and children beyond measure and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He once delivered his daughter to kindergarten in a helicopter, landing on the playground behind the school. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, beginning from 2 pm - 8 pm, with a 7 PM Rosary at the Wasik Funeral Home 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (n. of 22 Mile Rd), Shelby Twp. Instate Friday 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church 40501 Hayes Rd. (n. of 17 Mile Rd.). Tim will be buried with Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
