Sylvia Diaz

Sylvia Ann Diaz January 24, 1951 - April 18, 2025 Sylvia Diaz, beloved sister, daughter, niece, aunt, cousin and friend, died unexpectedly on April 18, 2025, at the age of 74. She leaves behind a life that was rich in meaning, love and enjoyment in the simple things – a life that touched so many people, in ways both big and small. Sylvia was born in Pontiac, Michigan, to Stephen and Esther Diaz; beloved parents who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her loving brother Ralph, as well as her beloved sister-in-law Nadine. She is survived by her beloved siblings, brothers Steve (Nadine) Diaz and Arthur Diaz, as well as sisters Kathy Diaz and Susie Diaz, and her sister-in-law Sharon (Ralph) Diaz. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and aunts, an uncle and many cousins. Sylvia’s family meant everything to her - and she was well loved in return. Sylvia had an early career as a beautician, which she truly enjoyed. But her long-term career was with the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) administration offices, which she ultimately retired from. Sylvia continued to keep in touch with many of her colleagues over the years. They all knew her as cheerful and outgoing, and marveled at how she could make friends with anyone and everyone. That was one of her gifts in life. She was more than just fun and friendly; Sylvia truly cared about everyone! Sylvia was deeply creative and loved anything glitzy, especially diamonds and sparkles and the color turquoise! She loved beauty and had a knack and skill for creating homemade items such as wreaths, ornaments and even birdhouses for both family and friends but especially for her Susie Q. Everyone always exclaimed that her creations were both unusual and beautiful. Sylvia was always dressed with sparkle and flair, whether she was going to bingo or to visit family and friends. Sylvia was the loving caregiver, along with brother Art, to both parents. Following their deaths, she continued to help take care of her brother Art and sister Kathy. She was generous beyond measure, and those lucky enough to know her remember her as a giver of the most thoughtful gifts and a maker of the most delicious food, especially as she followed in her mom’s footsteps with traditional Mexican dishes she would share with family. She loved spending quality time with her sister Susie, whom she encouraged to retire in 2023 so they could do more things together, including shopping, visiting friends and family, and playing bingo at the local bingo hall. Over the years, she was an irreplaceable travel buddy and adventurer with her sister Susie. They were the best of friends, and constant companions. When their cousin/sister Rachel was with them, it was constant laughter and irreplaceable moments and memories made together. Sylvia also made memorable trips with her mom, and special friends. Most importantly Sylvia was the one who was always there for everyone, without ever complaining, and always with a smile. She loved taking care of all her loved ones, including her precious dog babies through the years. Sylvia will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known and loved her. She loved beautiful bright cardinals and believed they represented loved ones who had passed. So the next time you see one perched in a tree or sitting in the snow, please think of Sylvia stopping by to say hello. Instate on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 9:30 am until a 10:00 am funeral mass at St. Peter Catholic Church located at 95 Market St., Mt. Clemens, 48043. Immediately following Mass there will be a memorial luncheon served at Fr. Welch Parish Hall on the Campus of St. Peter Catholic Church. Sylvia will be laid to rest on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Centennial Cemetery in New Haven, those in attendance can feel free to use either the Clark Street or the Havenridge Road Entrance.
