Michael ‘’Mike” George DeSantis, a beloved husband, father, brother, teacher, and friend, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at his residence in Washington, Michigan. Born on Sunday, July 18, 1971, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Mike was 53 years old. Mike shared 27 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Amy. Together, they raised two cherished children, Madalyn and Josie, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Ron DeSantis, Gerianne (Mark) Prichard, Dan (Anna) DeSantis, and Ken (Maureen) DeSantis. Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter within his family, which includes eight nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Diane DeSantis, Mike grew up in a home filled with love and strong family values, which he carried throughout his life. He was not only a devoted family man but also a passionate educator. As a social studies teacher at Troy Athens High School, he made a positive impact on his students and all the lives he touched. Known for his kind heart and willingness to lend a helping hand, Mike was respected and loved by colleagues and students alike. He was proud to serve as a building union representative, advocating for his fellow educators. Mike's intellectual pursuits extended into writing educational assessment tools, notably contributing to Michigan M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress), a testament to his dedication to quality education. Beyond the classroom, Mike was an avid comic book lover and collector. He shared his enthusiasm for this art form as the owner and promoter of the Great Lakes Comic-Con and the Great Lakes Comic Expo, bringing joy and community to fellow enthusiasts. His passion for comics led him to travel the country, experiencing Comic-Cons far and wide, and sharing stories with those he met along the way. Mike loved to bring comic book artists and fandom guests to his shows and helped many beginning artists get their start in the convention circuit. In addition to his love for teaching and comics, Mike loved working outdoors. Whether tending to his garden or exploring the beauty of nature, he embraced life’s simple pleasures. Known for his gift of gab, Mike could engage anyone in conversation, sharing stories and laughter that enriched the lives of those around him. Mike touched many lives with his warmth, humor, and generosity. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Through Gift of Life Michigan Organ and Tissue Donation, Mike is continuing to help others live their best life. May he rest in peace.
