John Dominic Monte

John Dominic Monte, age 82, of Shelby Township, passed away peacefully at his home on June 20, 2026. Born on June 17, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the cherished son of the late Dominic and Frances Monte. A Legacy of Service and Community John dedicated his life to protecting and serving others. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Following his military service, John continued his devotion to the public as a Livonia Reserve Police Officer, a role he held with honor for 38 years. His deep commitment to his community was officially recognized upon his retirement in December 2017, when the Mayor of Livonia presented him with the prestigious Key to the City. Family and Faith Above all his achievements, John’s greatest joy was his family. He was the beloved husband of Dora Monte, with whom he shared a life full of love and devotion. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Annmarie Monte (Jon Loniewski) and Kimberly (Michael) Hodor. John absolutely adored his three grandchildren, Amanda (Emanuel) Masache, Avery Hodor, and Aaron Hodor. In his later years, his heart was stolen by his great-grandson, Liam Masache, who truly became his pride and joy. John is also survived by his loving brother, Joseph (Cathy) Monte. He was reunited in death with his parents and his siblings, Francis (Maureen) Monte, Raymond (Linda) Monte, Grace (Michael) Kwiatkowski, and Annette (Butch) Bowden. Passion for the Game An avid sports enthusiast, John was a fiercely loyal fan of his hometown teams. Whether they were winning or losing, he rarely missed a game, always cheering on the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Detroit Lions from the comfort of his home. A memorial mass will be said on July 10, 2026 at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Shelby Twp. at 10:00 am. Family and friends may start visiting beginning at 9:30 am until time of mass. John will be remembered as a dedicated public servant, a loyal sports fan, and a deeply devoted family man whose legacy of love, strength, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
