Roger Alan Hoos

Roger Alan Hoos, age 75, of Clinton Township, Michigan passed away on October 28, 2024. He was born on June 14, 1949 to Edward and Bette (nee Atkinson) Hoos in Washington DC. Beloved husband of Nona of 53 years. Loving father of Kari (Daniel) Yonkowski and Traci (Ryan) Bowman. Proud grandfather of Kelsey and Franklin Yonkowski and Addison and Amelia Bowman. Dear brother of Edward Hoos, and Christine (Jill) Hoos. Survived by loving sisters-in-law Dotti Webb, Susie (Ronald) Dannenberg, Laura (Kent) Maurer, and Terri (David) Curry, and brother-in-law David (Yvonne) Daniels. Preceded in death by Ken Webb, Rose (Don) Webb and Bill Daniels. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Roger loved to fish and garden in his spare time when he wasn't singing in the choir at St. Paul of Tarsus and Cantata Academy Chorale, both of which he loved devoting his time to. He enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and being outside. He loved supporting all the Detroit Sports teams from a young age and rooted them on his entire life. He was also always very supportive of his grandchildren. He was at their events cheering them on whether it was sports, a hobby they had, or their academic achievements. Sports were a huge part of Roger's life for many years, which is something that will live on through his grandchildren. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 1978 and went on to pursue a career in teaching. When Roger was a teacher in Texas he coached high school sports for many years. When he was off the field from coaching, he would watch sports of almost every kind on TV and loved to root for his favorite teams which were Western Michigan University and University of Michigan sports of all kinds. While teaching, he received his School Administration degree from Sam Houston State University and went on to become Athletic Director at Algonac Community Schools, Assistant Principal at East Detroit High School, and finally Assistant Principal at both Eisenhower and Stephenson High Schools in the Utica Community School District, before retiring in 2008. For a short time after retiring, he also worked at Wyandotte Middle School in Chippewa Valley Schools until retiring again in 2015. In all his time in public education, he loved all his students and always tried to help them in whatever way he could. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a 7:00 pm scripture service at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc. 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (n. of 22 Mile Rd.), Shelby Twp. Instate in church Monday from 11:30 am until a 12:00 pm funeral mass at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church 41300 Romeo Plank Rd., Clinton Twp. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the American Cancer Society or the Colon Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
