Robert Walter Elwart of Warren passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born January 26, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Frank and Cecilia Elwart. Beloved husband of the late Barbara. Dearest father of Denise (Randy) Johnson and Laura (Clare Franquist) Elwart. Loving grandfather of Keir Kurvink (Alexandra), Jessica DiGirolamo, Tina Elwart, Andrew (Angela) Johnson, Sean Johnson, Clare (Justin) Franquist Jr., and Shannon Franquist; great-grandfather of Jordan. Cherished brother of Raymond Elwart, the late Arthur (Marlene) Elwart. Dear Godfather of Kathy and Diane. Uncle of Debbie, Kathy, Diane, and the late Gregory and Lori. Dear great uncle to many nieces and nephews, including Megan and Leah. Also survived by many more family members and loving friends. Bob was a man who appreciated mechanics, history, and the fine details in all things. He had a lifelong passion for automobiles and trains. A true car enthusiast, Bob poured endless care into building an impressive collection of diecast models, knowing the stories, specs, and details behind each piece. He also loved trains, whether it was collecting models or simply admiring full-size locomotives, he found a genuine joy in the art and motion of the railways. Some of Bob's happiest moments were spent with a fishing rod in hand, a hunting rifle over his shoulder, or simply enjoying the crisp woods of Northern Michigan. He was most at home "Up North" near Rose City, Michigan: a place that became a sanctuary for him to unwind, cast a line into the quiet waters, head out on a hunt, or just take in the beautiful landscapes of Northern Michigan. When he wasn't outdoors or organizing one of his collections, Bob could usually be found in his woodworking shop. He was a gifted craftsman who could transform raw materials into remarkable pieces that were made to last the test of time—a reflection of his work ethic and care for others. Bob lived life with a steady hand, a sharp eye, and a deep appreciation for the simple, good things in life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him. Memorial visitation will be Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 2-8 p.m. with a 5 p.m. memorial service and light refreshments to follow, at Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., 11470 Thirteen Mile Road (West of Hoover) in Warren. Interment of ashes will occur at St. Clement Cemetery in Center Line at a later date.
