Richard A. Miller

Richard Miller, Age 86, of Rochester Hills, MI went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 25, 2024. Richard was the beloved husband of Jeanette (nee Sikora) for 55 Years. Devoted father of Kathleen (Jim) Duggan. Proud and involved “Puta” to Noah, Aidan, Liam and Anna Duggan. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Gertrude Miller (nee Czarnecki) and his brother Michael (Gail) Miller. Caring brother of Kathleen Miller and Gail (Michael) LaPointe. Richard was born in Detroit and raised in Hamtramck, MI. As noted by his mother in his baby book, while Richard wasn’t saying many words at age 1, by age 2, he wouldn’t stop talking! Always the student, he enjoyed learning about things and shared his lifelong love of learning with hundreds of students that he worked with over the course of his 42 year teaching career (following in the footsteps of his father who was also a teacher). Richard graduated from Hamtramck high school in 1955 and went on to Eastern Michigan University where he earned his teaching certificate and then on to Wayne State University where he earned his Master’s Degree. Richard worked in both Pontiac and Center Line Schools as a special education teacher. During his career, he was also a middle & high school basketball and football coach in Center Line Schools and was inducted into the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 1994. Richard was an athlete from the beginning and excelled in baseball. He played college ball for two years at Eastern Michigan University. Later in life, he took up golfing. Some of his best (and worst days!) we’re spent on the golf course with his friends from Centerline as well as his brother Michael. His hole in 1 was the highlight of his golfing career! Richard was a proud member of Father Kramer K of C 3rd degree and K of C Divine Mercy 4th degree. Richard will be remembered for his kind heart, giving ways and strong faith in God. The family would like to thank the staff at Cedarbrook of Rochester for their care, kindness and compassion over the past two and a half years and they would also like to thank the caring staff at Accent Hospice who cared for Richard in the final months of his life. We know you are finally home, at peace and whole again and were undoubtedly welcomed home with “well done, good and faithful servant”. Visitation will be on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 PM Rosary at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., 49150 Schoenherr Rd., (N of 22 Mile Rd.) Shelby Township, Michigan. In State Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, 2675 John R Rd., Rochester Hills, Michigan 48307. Immediately following the mass, burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, Michigan. However, there will be no procession to the cemetery.
