Paul Kies

Paul Robert Kies of Shelby Twp., MI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the age of 68 at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy, MI. Paul was born in Buffalo, NY on Father’s Day, June 18, 1950. He was preceded by his loving parents, Paul George Kies and Edith Kies. Paul was a devoted and caring husband to Kathy (Schneider) Kies for over 46 years. He was a loving father to Paul A. & Sally (Stier) Kies, Christopher & Elizabeth (Diem) Kies, and Andrew & Deanna (Gerberry) Kies. Proud grandfather (“Opa”) to 7 grandchildren: Paul James (PJ), Orrin, Eli, Annalise, Andrew, Nathan, and Ian. Dear brother of Edith (Dietmar) Poelzing and Marlisa (Robert) Kalb. He is also survived by countless loving family members and friends. Paul was a minister in the New Apostolic Church for 49 years, who joyfully served members in Buffalo, NY, Westlake, OH, El Paso, TX, Dayton, OH, and Sterling Heights, MI. He retired from his ministry in October 2017, in the midst of many loving friends and family. His service as a minister and member of the church included holding services, visiting members, singing in and directing the choir, acting as youth leader, and leading small group discussions. Paul recently retired from Delphi Product & Service Solutions in Troy, MI where he was a Packing Engineer. Paul’s spiritual and natural works took Kathy and him on many adventures, and afforded Paul the privilege of touching many lives. He was known for his generous heart, contagious energy, humorous nature, and pure joy for life and relationships. In his short time in retirement, Paul enjoyed volunteering at church and in his community (via MCREST), cooking delicious meals for his wife Kathy, enjoying his lake house, traveling in his infamous Astro Van to visit family and friends, completing home improvement projects, and canning vegetables that he grew in his home garden. Visitation will take place on Friday January 11th from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Wasik Funeral Home, Address: 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (n. of 22 Mile Rd.), Shelby Charter Township, MI 48315. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 12th at 10:30 AM at the New Apostolic Church, Address: 37800 Utica Road (E. of Schoenherr Rd.) Sterling Heights, MI 48312.
