Maxine Ann Hitchings

Maxine Ann Hitchings of Shelby Township, Michigan passed away peacefully January 23, 2025 at the age of 93. Maxine was born on February 22, 1931 to Ralph and Celena Denton in Flint, Michigan. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1949. Maxine met her future husband and best friend, Tom Hitchings, in elementary school. He proposed to her at the age of 12, and eventually they married on September 6, 1952. They were married for 42 years, and after Tom passed away Maxine moved to Port Huron, Michigan to be closer to family. Maxine worked as a secretary for 40 years, and volunteered at Blue Water Hospice and worked at McLaren Hospital Gift Shop. She was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Celena Denton, her husband Tom Hitchings, sister Betty Deal, brother Ralph Denton, son-in-law James Petz, and granddaughter Rebecca Wilson. She is survived by her children; Linda Wilson, Karen Petz, Kerry Hitchings (MaryJo) and Janet Crawford (Rob). Grandchildren, Bradley Wilson, Gregory Wilson, April DeMara (Mark), Thomas Petz (Christina), Casey Petz (Lauren), Heidi Koch (Michael), Christine Campbell (Tony), John Hitchings (Colleen), Joseph Crawford (Elizabeth), Betsy Weissman (Nicholas), and Adam Crawford (Emily). Maxine cherished her great grandchildren; Rocco Wilson, Giuliana Wilson, Madeleine Petz, Aidan Petz, Katie DeMara, Carlie DeMara, Nolen Petz, Finley Petz, Natalie Campbell, Jocelyn Campbell, JJ Hitchings, Adelaide Crawford, Bradley Crawford, Clara Weissman, Anna Weissman, Lucy Brewer, and Violet Brewer. Maxine also leaves behind her sister, Helen Eitel, sister-in-law Janice Denton, sister-in-law Sally Pippen (Richard), and several nieces and nephews. Maxine lived life to the fullest, and treasured spending time with family and friends. She was actively involved in her church, past president of the Port Huron Musicale, past president of Women’s Life Chapter 10, member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, and the GG Club. She also enjoyed traveling, taking care of her flower garden, spending time on the beach, and watching sailboats and freighters cruise along Lake Huron. A Celebration of Life will take place on February 22, 2025. Visitation will be at the Wasik Funeral Home, 49150 Schoenherr Rd, Shelby Township, Michigan 48315 from 9:30-10:30 am with a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to McLaren Hospice, 1411 3rd Street, Suite C, Port Huron, Michigan, 48060.
