In Loving Memory Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Barton March 13, 1937 – July 15, 2025 A Life Remembered Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Barton (Maday), age 88, passed away peacefully under hospice care on July 15, 2025, at the Martha T. Berry Nursing Facility in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Mary Lou was born on March 13, 1937, and graduated from Dominican High School in 1955. She considered joining the religious order and aspired to teach. Instead, Mary Lou married and as a faithful wife mothered three children. She practiced the art of cosmetology and eventually found her true calling as a school bus driver for the Anchor Bay School District. She forged lasting bonds with her bus driver colleagues and was admired and respected by the children she transported. Several children would honor Mary Lou during holidays and special events lasting into adulthood. Mary Lou’s life was full of laughter, love, and generosity. She was an enthusiastic bingo player, bowler, card shark, and board game competitor. She enjoyed lottery scratch-offs and friendly wagers. She embraced fun wherever she could find it. Mary Lou gave back through sisterhood and service as a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi, Xi Omicron chapter. She deeply valued connection with family and friends, staying in touch via greeting cards, phone calls and postings on Facebook. She especially enjoyed social media updates from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite delicacies included rutabaga, shrimp cocktail, chicken livers (just like Frankenmuth makes them), and small frog legs—her final meal. Mary Lou is survived by her loving children Thomas (Debra) Barton, Timothy Barton, Marianne (Craig) Hanselman, grandchildren Jonathan (Audrey) Barkus, Jessica (Keith) Chartrand, Robert Hanselman, great grandchildren Owen Barkus and Auden Barkus, grand dogs Tucker Hanselman, Oliver Hanselman, and Annie Barton Celebration of Life A graveside service, open to anyone who wishes to pay their last respects and share memories will be at St. Denis Cemetery, 7125 Harrington Road, Lexington Michigan, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:00AM.
