John Albert Strauch

John A. Strauch was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Stephen and Cecilia Strauch. He passed away at his residence in Shelby Twp. on December 19, 2023 at the age of 93. John moved to Detroit from Pennsylvania when he was 12 years old. He cultivated a life long love of baseball while a student at Northwestern High School in Detroit where he played on the high school team. John carried this love of the game into his adulthood where he played until he was 56 years old. Just because he wasn't playing baseball any longer didn't mean that John had any less love of the game. He could often be found cheering on the Detroit Tigers and their farm team the Toledo Mud Hens. He and his beloved wife Janice had a brick placed with their names on it at the new Comerica Stadium in Detroit. By trade John was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Detroit before his retirement. When he could get away from work John enjoyed fishing with Janice while raising their family and spent many years vacationing in Port Hope, Michigan. His love of his family knew no bounds. When his daughters were young they were the apple of his eye and then the grandkids came along and he didn't divide his love but he multiplied it. Then the grandkids started having kids of their own and that love was amplified exponentially...he loved nothing more than his family. He is the beloved husband of Janice for 72 years. Loving father of Denise (Charles) Samu and Lori (Raymond) Domsic. Very proud grandpa of Lauren (Richard) Claeys and Jeffrey (Cydney) Domsic and special great grandpa of Ryan and Madelynn Claeys. Dearest brother of the late Emil (Monica) Strauch, the late Stephen (Gertrude) Strauch, the late Irene (Thomas) Ontko, the late William (Maryann) Strauch, and the late Cecilia (Robert) Zeweke. Dearest brother in law of Dolores (the late Leonard) Kay. Dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday 2-8 PM with a 7 PM Rosary at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc. 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (n. of 22 Mile Rd.), Shelby Twp. Instate Saturday 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Isidore Catholic Church 18201 23 Mile Rd. (corner of Romeo Plank), Macomb Twp. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
