John Hepper

John Hepper, born June 9, 1929, in Glasgow, Scotland, passed away on November 11, 2022, in Shelby Township, MI at a young 93 years old. He was well known as a doting and loving husband to Nettie and father to Sam. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Nettie Hepper, and parents Andrew and Margaret (nee Robson) Hepper. He is survived by his son, Sam (Carole) Hepper, grandchildren, Amy (Allan Kucab), John (Heather), Tracie, and great-grandchildren: Anthony, Andrew, Addison and Samuel. Having lost his father at a young age, he was primarily influenced by his Mother, Grandparents, and Uncle John. He spent most of his childhood in Glasgow playing soccer, being mischievous with his friends, and enjoying music. He was especially close to his cousin Danny, with whom he spent time living outside of the city, in the country, for two years during World War II. At 14 years old he started his first job working in a meat market, and later joined His Majesty’s Armed Services at the age of 18. After his time in the service, he had a desire to explore the world and came to Canada where he met the love of his life, Nettie Mazzara at a dance. They married in 1957 and throughout their 61 years of marriage, they enjoyed dancing, theatre, traveling, playing cards, and treasuring time with friends and family. John worked in Eastern Market as a butcher, and in his spare time, he would usually be reading or playing golf (even into his 92nd year). John was a dear friend, had a great sense of humor, and was always able to put a smile on your face. His disposition and charm worked in his favor to even pay for a meal when he was on his travels to Italy as a young man. He reveled in his role as grandfather, and never missed an opportunity to be involved in the lives of those he loved, especially when it came to his grandchildren. He jumped at the opportunity to coach soccer for his grand-son John, could be seen dressed in his kilt on International Day in preschool and was the consummate cheerleader, hardly missing any events of his nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John was often the one that everyone called on for help with anything from tile and wallpaper to carving the Thanksgiving turkey. He also enjoyed a great glass of scotch with friends and family. He was a charismatic man with a magnetic personality, was well loved by all generations, and was known to many as Uncle or Grandpa John (whether he was related to them or not). He will be very dearly missed because as his son, Sam, says John’s real superpower was that anyone who met him fell in love with him. Visitation Tuesday, November 15 from 3-8 PM at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (North of 22 Mile Rd.) Shelby Township. Instate at church 9:30 am until a 10 AM funeral service at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 54045 Schoenherr Rd, Shelby Township. Internment Resurrection Cemetery.
