Joseph Wallace Szymanski

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph W. Szymanski, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, who left us on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 9th, 1942, Joseph was a cherished resident of Michigan, whose life was marked by love, family, and dedication. Joseph is remembered as a devoted husband to Elaine, his beloved wife, and a caring father to his daughters, Teresa (Gary) Jablynski and Carolyn Sedrowski. He was a loving stepfather to David Peckens and the late Gregory Peckens. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Joseph (Sydney), Christopher (Kealy), Hunter (Chelsea), Katherine, Benjamin, Cassandra, Tyler, Jacob, Nathan and his great-granddaughter, Genevieve Louise. He is predeceased by his father, Wallace Szymanski, his mother, Genevieve Szymanski, step-mother, Henrietta and wives, Mary Ann and Joanne and son, Christopher. Despite the losses, Joseph is survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will miss his warmth and wisdom. Joseph dedicated his career to repairing, using his skills and knowledge to help many in his community. He was a man who exemplified hard work and perseverance, qualities that he instilled in his family. He was a dedicated employee of Chrysler for 36 1/2 years. He was a very dedicated member of The American Polish Century Club, the one and only Joe joined our Club on July 21, 1993 and has been very true to his Polish Heritage, his Church & God, and a good/great friend to many of us here at our Club! Joe was on the Board of Directors as the Sergeant of Arms for many years, and has been the chairman of such functions, as Poorman's New Years Eve, Chairman of the "Szymanski Bar" at our American Polish Festival, Chairman of many of our Member's Christmas Parties, Organizer and Chair of getting the many foods prepared at our Festival, helping at the many Children's Christmas Parties and many others things. He sang in the Choir. He gave numerous hours after all these years every Friday at our Seafood Dinners, and loved joking and teasing the many customers, along with many of us, that came through our doors. He was escort and host for the many Women's Auxiliary Tea Parties and looked great in that Tux! Joe was Joe, he loved sipping on his 7 & 7 and loved hanging with all his buds here at our Club. On the humorous side, Joe loved talking at our meetings and getting people motivated, and "yes" he needed no microphone when he talked! When Joe Spoke, "everyone listened"! Joe loved his Polish Music and dancing to his favorite band, The Misty Blues. He loved singing his favorite Polka's at the Christmas Parties, with many of his friends and basically Joe just loved life. Joe earned the, "Member of the Year Award" many years ago and his personality and voice will echo throughout our Club for years to come. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Wasik Funeral Home in Shelby Township, Michigan, on Sunday, March 30th, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a 7 pm American Polish Century Club Service. The following morning, an instate service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Hamtramck, Michigan, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, March 31st, 2025. Joseph W. Szymanski will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the love and memories he leaves behind.
