Joanne Mulawa

There is so much to say about someone so special who lived a full 99 years and 16 days. Joanne loved to tell stories of how it was when she was young, living in Detroit, experiencing the war, the depression, the exciting, growth years in the city, etc. She had various jobs but the one she proudly says was her favorite was being a Secretary at Burroughs Corporation that began when she was widowed at 50 until she retired at 65. She was “styling” always, getting her hair done regularly. As life went on she loved to fill her days clipping coupons and shopping for the best deals. She was a sharp, competitive card player, loved bingo and winning prizes, doing crafts, gardening and being with friends. She always made sure she took her vitamins and did all she could to stay as healthy and pain-free as possible…and it all worked! She loved her family and had so many years to be involved with her grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren. She made friends everywhere she was and outlived most of them! She adoringly smiled as she sang “Sto lat” and blew out candles on her 99th birthday just a few weeks ago. And she felt so good when she got her hair done just a few days before she passed away, per the beautiful photo you see here in her obituary, coined “hairdo to heaven”. Joanne M.
