Joan Elaine Lockwood

Joan Lockwood, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated professional, passed away on the morning of September 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous six-year battle with lung cancer. She was 64 years old. Born on February 23, 1961, in Warren, Michigan, Joan was the daughter of Frank and Carolyn Bryan. A gifted student, she graduated summa cum laude from Richmond High School in 1979, before continuing her academic journey at Western Michigan University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in journalism with honors in 1981 in two years. In the same year, Joan began her professional career at General Dynamics, and two years later, she transitioned to XMCO Inc., where she would go on to spend over four decades. Rising to the role of Vice President of Operations, Joan became a respected leader within the company, known for her work ethic, integrity, and unwavering commitment. On September 12, 1981, Joan married her soulmate, Dan Lockwood. Together, they shared 42 years of love, companionship, and adventure. They were the proud parents of Bryan Lockwood, who later married Erin, and together they brought Joan the joy of her two grandsons, Jason and Danny. Joan’s passion for life extended far beyond her career. She was an avid lover of being on the water, with boating and swimming being some of her favorite activities. She cherished family vacations, shopping trips, reading books, and writing. But above all, it was her family—her husband, children, and grandchildren—that held the most special place in her heart. Joan is survived by her husband, Dan; her son Bryan and daughter-in-law Erin; grandsons Jason and Danny; her brother Larry Bryan and his wife Barb; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
