Jane Marie Aula

Jane Marie (Sexton) Aula passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023 with her husband, Steve, at her side. She was born June 19, 1967 to Thomas and Mary Jane Sexton in Toledo, Ohio. She was born with Cystic Fibrosis and from day one she was a fighter. Jane did not let her medical diagnosis keep her from living a truly full life. She participated in gymnastics and was a member of her high school drill team. Jane relocated to Grand Rapids, MI with her family in 1987. Here she started her life long career as a paralegal. Then a friend stepped in and introduced her to the man who would become her husband. Jane and Steve met at Michigan State University while she was visiting a childhood friend. Their relationship blossomed and Jane moved to Walled Lake, MI to be closer to Steve. Their relationship thrived and they were married on September 17, 1994 surrounded by family and friends. They moved to Royal Oak where she continued to work as a paralegal, but also discovered the love of quilting passed down from her Grandma Sexton. One of Jane’s favorite things was to create handmade quilts for family and friends. She took immense pride in her craft and taught herself the intricacies of quilting. In 2009, Jane received a second chance at life when she underwent a double lung transplant. She never took for granted the gift she was given and lived her life to the fullest. Other than quilting, she loved to travel with Steve. Avid campers, they were able to enjoy discovering new places with her favorites being Maine and the UP of Michigan. Between quilting, tailgating at Michigan State games, spending time with family and friends, but most importantly with Steve, she did not let CF control her life. She controlled it right up until the end. Jane is survived by her husband, Steve, her mother, Mary Jane Sexton, sisters Jennifer (Mark) Taylor , Ann Stephens, Kerry (Adam) Alter, sisters in law Sue (Marc) McCullen, Lynn (Chad) Swindall, nephews and nieces Andrew, Josh, Patrick, Maddie, Noah, Levi, Seth, Grace, Owen, Caleb, Connor, Sean, Kira, and Evan. Also countless aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces/nephews and numerous friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Sexton, Grandparents, Stanley and Marie Sexton and Fritz and Virginia Wambold, as well as several aunts and uncles. Jane will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, love of family and friends, but most importantly for her tenacity. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date with details to be shared then. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
