James Joseph Zmich

James “Jim” Zmich passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 84. Jim was born on March 20, 1938 in Bay City, Michigan to Alexander and Sybil (nee Kazmierski) Zmich. Jim was raised in the city of Detroit, attending De La Salle Collegiate High School and graduating in the class of 1956. After graduating, Jim pursued his education attending Catholic University in Washington D.C. and joining the Christian Brothers in New York and New Jersey. Jim spent 9 years teaching before leaving the order and returning to the Detroit area where he met the love of his life, Carol, and taking a job in the business field. Jim was deeply devoted to his faith and his family. Outside of that, Jim had a love for music, playing the harmonica, saxophone, clarinet, and violin. Jim belonged to various choirs, singing in church in his younger years and most recently he organized a choir in the senior living center where he lived. He often spent time fishing, boating, and camping. He spent many summers in Caseville, Sage Lake, and numerous campgrounds throughout Michigan. He loved participating in outdoor activities, including nature walks and gardening in his backyard. Poetry was one of Jim's passions. He was often writing for and sharing his pieces with those around him –whether he knew them well or not— at their celebrations, their time of mourning, or when they just needed a little support. It was acts like these that truly showed what a selfless person Jim was. Jim had a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease for over a decade, but it never took away his caring spirit, his love for everyone, or his ability to care for those around him, including at the time of his passing. His family was blessed by God's Grace by giving Jim the clarity and strength to verbalize and demonstrate his love and support for his family up until the time of his passing. He will be forever missed by all those that knew him. He is the beloved husband of the late Carol (ne Becker). Loving father of Debbie (Joe) Fischer, Karen (Chris) Glugla, Dan (Lynn) Zmich. Proud Grandpa/Papa of Stefanye Fischer, the late Shelbi Fischer, Sierra (Bob) Carlson, Carley Glugla, Faith Powers, Alexis Glugla, Carson Glugla, Gabriella Zmich, Avery Glugla, and Alexander Zmich and great grandpa of Savana, Kylee, CJ, and Jackson. Dear brother of the late Michael (the late Maria) Zmich and Mary Ann (Paul) Makar. Dear brother-in-law of the late Mary Jane (the late Greg) MacDonald, Nancy Becker, the late Frank (Diane) Becker, Emily (Tony) Plewa, Donna (Dave) Bremerkamp, Richard Becker, Norman (Linda) Becker, the late Jim (the late Denise) Becker.
