Emma Marie Bochenek

Emma Marie Bochenek, age 67, was guided to her heavenly home by her angels on Mother's Day, May 12th 2019. She lived a wonderful, fulfilling, and loving life. Born on June 1st, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Emily (Rahi) and Joseph Hakim. She was married on November, 27th, 1971 to her beloved husband Paul Leo Bochenek and had two outstanding boys, Andrew (Karen) Bochenek and Marc (Heather) Bochenek, as well as two beautiful granddaughters, Maddy Bochenek and Mya Bochenek. She is survived by her siblings Maroun (Lidwina) Hakim, Roy (Tammy) Hakim, Mary (Al) Brazier, Sam Hakim, Joanne (Michael) Carpenter, Elaine (Marino) Censoni, Diana Bochenek, Dr. Vivian Bochenek (Joy Budd), Ralph (Deborah) Bochenek, Ronald (Karen) Bochenek, Michael (Lenora) Bochenek, Thomas (Tina) Bochenek, Kenneth (Cheri Welsh) Bochenek, and Dr. Grace Broecker (Mark). Emma is further survived by her God Children Angela (Buzzy) Lutfy and Michael Carpenter, Jr. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph, her mother Emily, her father in-law Leo, her mother in-law Helen, and sister-in-law Maryjane Hakim. Emma loved her family, every single one of them, in her own distinct and special way. She had relationships that far outgrew just being a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister in-law, an aunt, and a friend. She grew up in a large Lebanese family on Detroit's eastside. A daddy's girl at heart, she loved the special bond that she had with her father, always wanting to tag along with him for anything that he might have been doing. As the oldest daughter and sister she was always looking out for everyone's best interest, whether that was babysitting her younger siblings and cousins, helping her mother in the kitchen, or sharing secrets with a sister. She met her beloved husband Paul in grade school at Saint David's and the two have been in each others lives ever since. People often talk about 'Best Friends Forever' but Emma and Paul defined this term. Through the love that they shared their families became friends, and neighborhood friends became like family. That’s how it always was. When Emma was little she could often be found jumping rope. Emma and Paul were married they immediately moved to Oceanside, California as Paul was in the Navy. That's how they started their lives together, by themselves meeting all the challenges that life dealt them as a team...And they did really, really well. Within a few years Paul and Emma were blessed with Andrew and Marc, and went on to show them the world and mold them from young boys into young men. She was a fierce defender of her sons, getting thrown out of multiple t-ball games. Education was also important to Emma. She put her mind to finishing her degree and when she put her mind to something she followed through. She graduated college fulfilling a promise that she made to herself. This dedication to education followed through to the way she raised her boys as well. She wanted her boys to go to De La Salle, so she worked tirelessly to make that happen, moving every obstacle in her way. As her boys grew she loved watching Marc and Andy play football and baseball, always worrying about them. To Emma nothing was more important to her than her family. She dedicated her life to them. She bonded with her friends, donating her time to the Church, to the Red Hats, and loved traveling with my her favorite travel companion, her husband Paul. She taught us about life. She taught us about love. She will be missed dearly by all that had the distinct pleasure of knowing and loving her. Visitation Sunday May 19, from 4-9pm, with a 6:30pm Rosary at the Wasik Funeral Home at 22 Mile and Schoenherr, in Shelby Township. Instate Monday, May 20, 9:00am at Saint Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church until 10am Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
