Barbara J. Shereda

Barbara J. Shereda of Prudenville, passed away on October 21, 2022, at the age of 79, in Warren, MI. She was born on July 13, 1943, to James V. and Jeannette (Baker) Crawford in Detroit, MI. Barb is survived by her son, William, Jr. (his former wife Julie), her daughters, Jeannette Shereda Frantz (Matt), Patricia Rahn (James) and Catherine Peck (John), her nine beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Lauren, Jordan, Brendan, Jacob, Allison, Joshua, Lindsey and Julius. Barb will be missed by her sister Bette Sykes (Michael), brothers John Crawford (Carol), James Crawford, Jr., sister-in-law Pauline Stachurski, and her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, William, Sr., brothers/sisters-in-law Charles Stachurski, and Gerald & Jane Shereda. Barbara Jean had many talents and was often referred to as "Saint Barb." Her welcoming acceptance of everyone and ability to spread love and kindness lives on in her children and grandchildren. Barb was a life long learner, a swimmer in high school, later a certified scuba diver, swim instructor and life guard. Being very active in the Mt. Clemens YMCA she raised her children swimming there every Sunday, participating in Indian Maidens (Snowbird), and working as a lifeguard. Barb was involved with many community groups and as a teacher helper during her childrens' elementary school years. Barb was an active member of the MSU garden club extension, trained in flower arranging and enjoyed painting. She was a great baker of everything from The best pancakes, to special breads, famous Crawford Christmas cookies, and elaborately decorated birthday cakes. Her passion for quilting, crocheting, knitting and sewing created family heirlooms to be cherished by future generations. Family time fulfilled her. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Making it a point to travel with them and to them, making special plans with each of them on trains, planes, automobiles, and amphibious vehicles. Trips up north to Grammy's house were legendary. . .remember “What happens at grandma’s stays at grandma’s!” From annual summer camping, boating and water skiing at Higgins Lake & canoeing down the Au Sable River to tobogganing on Pioneer Hill, and ice skating on Lake James, Grammy was down for the fun! Barb found great joy traveling with family and friends. Whether it was with her father taking cruises to the Caribbean (Panama and Aruba) or taking trips with her children and their families. Barb was able to take many jaunts throughout the U.S. and abroad. Of Dutch heritage on her mother's side, she enjoyed traveling to Holland with her sister, cousins and friends in their self-proclaimed society "The Tulip Gang." Throughout their retirement travels, they lovingly referred to themselves as the "Tulip Twits." Although not a big talker, Barb had a charming subtle sense of humor, and was the center of many fun filled experiences. She will be missed by all as her life was taken too soon; her's is a legacy of nurturing and caring. Visitation for Barbara will be on Friday from 2- 7:00 p.m. at the Wasik Funeral Home -Gendernalik Chapel, 35259 Twenty Three Mile Rd. New Baltimore. Funeral services will be on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, New Baltimore. Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Wasik Funeral Home-Gendernalik Chapel. Additional visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
