Anna May Czarnik

Beloved wife of the late Eugene. Dearest mother of Alan (Betsy) Czarnik, Marilyn (the late Robert) Bird, and the late Janice (the late Arthur) Delmar. Loving grandmother of Alanna (Andrew) Benway, Brittany (Ryan) Derra, Andrew (Andrea) Bird, Clint (Daniella) Delmar, Anthony Bird, and Gwendolyn Czarnik. Adoring great-grandmother of Gavin Benway, Brynn Benway, Henry Derra, Madison Derra, Sebastien Delmar, and Charles Bird. Dear sister of the late Mary Vivoda and the late John Vivoda. Also survived by her loving cousin, Daniel Kardas. Anna (May) Czarnik (née Vivoda) was born in Detroit, Michigan, to her immigrant parents, Andrew and Anna Vivoda. She grew up downriver in Ecorse, Michigan, during the Great Depression. Some of her fondest early memories were spent under the loving care of her beloved grandmother, “Mumaki,” who taught her the art of keeping a beautiful home. From her mother, she learned to cook the incredible meals that would later become legendary in her own family, like her beef stew. A proud graduate of the Grace School of Nursing, Anna earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. It was during her nursing school years that she met the love of her life, Eugene Czarnik, on a blind date in 1952. It was love at first sight. They married shortly afterward and built a beautiful life together, raising three children: Janice, Alan, and Marilyn. The family shared many joyful summers vacationing in northern Michigan, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Anna’s greatest happiness came from family. She became a grandmother in 1982 and went on to lovingly help raise six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Children truly were her greatest joy. She retired from nursing in 1985 so she could devote more time to her growing family. When tragedy struck and her daughter Janice, along with Janice’s husband Artie, passed away far too soon, Anna and Eugene stepped in without hesitation to help raise their three grandchildren—Alanna, Brittany, and Clint—pouring even more love and strength into their family. Anna’s life was defined by her generous spirit and her deep commitment to helping others. Family was always at the center of her world, yet she also cherished shopping, traveling, getting her hair and nails done, and sharing good meals with friends. She formed many close friendships over the years and had a gift for meaningful conversation. With her huge heart and warm presence, Anna touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Memorial visitation Saturday 3-8 p.m. at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., 11470 Thirteen Mile Road (West of Hoover) Warren. Family and friends will gather Sunday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until a 12 noon Celebration of Life. In loving memory of Anna, memorial donations may be addressed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A funeral luncheon will be provided in Anna's memory following the Celebration of Life.
