Ann Marie Plegue

Ann Marie (Schaldenbrand) Plegue passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2025, in Midland, MI, surrounded by her loved ones. Fittingly, a snowstorm filled the sky that day—just as she would have wished. Born on May 26, 1959, in Mt. Clemens, MI, Ann was the daughter of Eugene and Anita (Hart) Schaldenbrand. She grew up in New Baltimore and graduated from Anchor Bay High School in 1977. On September 26, 1980, she married Dennis Plegue at Immaculate Conception Church in Ira, MI. Together, they built a life in Fair Haven, where they raised their two sons, Jason and Michael. In recent years, Ann and Dennis split their time between Fair Haven and their home in Kinross, MI, in the Upper Peninsula. Ann had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in every season. A true motorsports enthusiast, she spent countless hours on her snowmobile, wave runner, side-by-side, and boat, always embracing adventure. She also cherished time on “The Island” where she made countless memories with loved ones, and she could often be found along the shores of Lake Superior, happily searching for unique rocks and treasures. Her greatest passion was supporting the Special Olympics. Ann was a dedicated member of the Water Warriors for 28 years, serving as both coordinator and chairwoman for much of that time. She also founded and organized the Lake St. Clair Fun Run, an event she successfully ran for 25 years, raising over $600,000 for Special Olympics Michigan. Ann is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dennis; her sons, Jason and Michael (Melissa); and her beloved grandchildren, Benjamin and Clara. She also leaves behind her siblings, Wayne Schaldenbrand, Cindy Walker, Joe (Kathy) Schaldenbrand, and John Schaldenbrand; mother-in-law Christine Plegue, brother-in-law Donald (Blanch) Plegue, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Martin Walker; her sister-in-law, Marlene Schaldenbrand; her father-in-law, John Plegue; and her sister-in-law, Dianne Hansen. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the providers and staff at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland for their compassionate care in Ann’s final days. Visitation for Ann will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025 and 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. Rosary on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Wasik Funeral Home located at 35259-23 Mile Road in New Baltimore. Ann will lie Instate from 10:30 a.m. until an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Immaculate Conception Church located at 9764 Dixie Highway in Ira Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Special Olympics Michigan in Ann’s honor.
