Stephen Grubey

On Monday June 24th, just after 11pm a great man left this world for his eternal reward. Stephen Gerard Grubey was born on January 10th 1954 and stayed on this earth for 7 decades. He is grieved and celebrated by his family and friends. Predeceased by Father Clare August Grubby, & Mother Jean Mary Grubby, whom he goes now to join. Survived by three children Christopher, Michelle (Chris), & Michael (Jamie), five grandchildren Alexander, Liam, Jaxon, Elizabeth, & Jordan, siblings Gerald & Clarisse, stepmother Eleanor Grubby, as well as numerous cousins and friends. A man who loved the beauty of nature, Stephen was an avid admirer of the world. In his early adulthood he traveled across the country sleeping under the stars in the mountains and forests and continued to travel to see new places and sights with his children throughout his many years. In addition to his family, Stephen was also passionate about skiing, volunteering on the National Ski Patrol for 35 years. In his later years, he loved raising and breeding horses. He could often be found enjoying the peace and serenity of his surroundings sitting by the fireplace in his family home. Stephen was an engineering manager in the automotive industry for over 40 years. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Stephen was a devoted family man, who especially cherished his children and grandchildren. Stephen will lie in state at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford Road (corner of Morningside Drive), Grosse Pointe Woods, beginning at 9:30 until the beginning of his Funeral Mass at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Stephen Grubey will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and colleagues. "There are better reasons to get up in the morning than to go to work! This is the view from my window that I will keep in my memory me for a life time. Since those trees are on the highest point to the horizon east. When the conditions are just right and there are no clouds on the east horizon, I can watch as the sun kisses the tops of them at first light. Then watch as their glow moves down the branches and trucks. The trees across the pond are like a gnomon which casts a shadow onto the dial. I knew that if I could only paint lines on that one middle tree, I could count the minutes in the sunrise as I could count the minutes as the sundial’s shadow moves towards the center of its base. At some point, I could turn the hour glass. World's oldest sundial was said to be commissioned by the Egypt's king in the Valley of the Kings (c. 1500 BC) Not true. This is one of the world’s oldest that was commissioned by God at the creation of the world. We simply never sat still long enough to see it." Steve Grubey 4/2021
