It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Lee Texley, who left us peacefully on May 6, 2024, at his home in Boca Raton, Florida. Gary was a devoted husband, father, brother-in-law, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family and career. Born on January 4, 1947, in the vibrant city of metro Detroit, Michigan, Gary spent his early years shuttling between the bustling city and the serene summers in North Dakota with his beloved mother's family. These formative experiences instilled in him a love for history and a deep appreciation for life's simpler pleasures. Gary pursued his education in the metro Detroit area, attending school in Mount Clemens. It was there, during their senior year, that he met Juliana, his lifelong companion and beloved wife of 55 years, through a mutual friend. Their love story was one of mutual respect and admiration, and they built a beautiful life together filled with adventure and exploration. While establishing his career, Gary worked on the line at Chrysler in Detroit, simultaneously earning degrees in education and guidance counseling. His passion for nurturing young minds led him to a long and fulfilling career as a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator of the night school program at the Anchor Bay School District, dedicating over 30 years to the field of education. Upon retiring, Gary and Juliana embraced the opportunity to divide their time between the warmth of Florida's winters and the cool, peaceful summers at their cherished home in Alpena, Michigan. These moments were filled with love, laughter, and the company of friends and family. An ardent history buff, Gary's fascination with World War II and classic TV westerns was well-known among those close to him. His passion extended to the skies, where he earned his pilot's license, fueled by his love of old planes and WWII memorabilia. Throughout his life, Gary and Juliana traveled the world, creating memories in remarkable places like China, the Galápagos Islands, and France. In his later years, even as health challenges presented hurdles, Gary remained a devoted father to his sons, Greg and Eric, and a loving husband to Juliana. He found joy in revisiting his past passions, such as playing the accordion and watching his favorite TV shows like Gunsmoke. Gary is survived by his cherished wife, Juliana Texley, their sons Greg and Eric, and his brother-in-law, Ray Trempler. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Katherine Texley. A memorial visitation to honor Gary's life and legacy will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 5-8 pm with a 7 pm prayer service at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc. Gendernalik Chapel 35259 23 Mile Rd. in New Baltimore, Michigan. As we gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable man, let us remember Gary as a beacon of love, knowledge, and warmth, whose impact will be felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, the family invites contributions to the Anchor Bay Community Foundation. A charity that He and his wife were a part of for many years.
